From finding a sponsor to understanding the different levels of membership, there are a lot of questions that come with joining a private club like North Oaks Golf Club. You may be wondering about costs, meeting new friends, or making sure that your family is going to enjoy it as much as you will.
We asked our general manager, Phil Anderson, to identify and answer the top four questions he gets when it comes to golf membership at North Oaks Golf Club:
Q: We just moved to the area and we don’t know any members. Do we need to have member sponsors? And are there many opportunities to get to know other members?
A: Yes, you need a member sponsor, however, we’ll help you find one. The best way to meet other members is through club involvement — whether it be attending events, participating in clinics, leagues, club committees, or as simple as letting us know you're interested. We’re glad to help with the introductions.
Q: Do social members have opportunities to golf?
A: There are a few opportunities to dip your toe in the water. For instance, you can give it a shot at Spring Golf Trial, Couple’s Twilight, the Social Member Golf Clinic, or a junior golf summer camp and lessons. All great opportunities to try your hand at the game and see how much you enjoy it.
Q: What additional fees are required beyond monthly dues and food minimums?
A: Carts and caddies are additional. We are a walkable course, but there is a cart/caddy rule in effect during peak play. We have an annual service package that covers the practice range, winter indoor simulators, locker and shoe service, club storage, and a golf shop discount program.
Q: I’m an avid golfer, but my family isn’t quite as enthusiastic. How can they get involved with the club?
A: We have so many great opportunities for families to get involved in the game. For women, we have Thursday night clinics — a fun, low-stress way of learning fundamentals of full swing, short game, and putting that includes greenside wine service to take the edge off. We also have Social Six for the less experienced golfers who want to get a feel for playing the course in a relaxed, pressure-free environment.
For men, we have a Tuesday night league offering a low pressure, 9-hole, season-long team competition. A total of 120 golfers participate as individuals or in teams. It’s a great opportunity to get to know many members in a fun environment with additional bonding time over an optional dinner buffet on the patio following play. I dare not forget to mention the ever-popular Couple’s Twilight events, which provide a perfect platform for couples golf. The events take place over six Sunday evenings per season, are played in scramble format along with 50 other couples and followed by complimentary beer and wine and an optional dinner buffet.
There are ample opportunities for your kids to get involved, too. We have a variety of junior golf programs for those learning the basics.
If golf really isn't your family's forte, there are tennis courts, pickleball, and dining to suit everyone's mood. North Oaks also features year-round event programming such as wine dinners, dances, trivia nights, ladies’ night out, kids night out, beer dinners, scotch tastings, cooking classes and Nerf night, to name a few.
And what family club experience is complete without the annual favorites such as Breakfast with Santa, Halloween Party, Easter Brunch with Petting Zoo, Mother’s & Father’s Day Brunch, Gingerbread Workshop... you get the idea. There is plenty to do at North Oaks that is fun and doesn’t require you to tee up a golf ball.
