At North Oaks Golf Club it has been a year filled with opportunities to “Play with the Pros” at the club and at destination courses. In May, a group of members and professional golf staff made their way to Central Wisconsin for a leisure getaway to Sand Valley, named Best New Course in 2017 by Golf Digest.
North Oaks member Vid Kath explains, “as we’re driving through Wisconsin and about 10 miles away, I can’t believe there will be a golf complex because we’re in the middle of nowhere.” “Immediately upon getting to the peak of this property, our entire group was wowed by the views and vistas covered in natural sand,” says General Manager, Phil Anderson.
The architect of Mammoth Dunes, David McLay Kidd, was known for narrow and difficult courses. His goal behind Sand Valley was different. This time his intent was to “remind people that golf could be fun again.” Phil Anderson couldn’t have agreed more, “we heard fairways were 100 yards wide and they truly were, what an enjoyable and playable golf course for all.”
A New Way To Connect With Members
The club’s goal is to expand opportunities to grow relationships through travel. Membership in a private club offers multiple ways to connect with other members by participating in social events, children’s activities, golf clinics, leagues, and tournaments. Organized travel with fellow club members provides yet another, less traditional, means to foster friendships and create unforgettable memories.
The first two days of the trip, everyone golfed with members they already knew and the golf professionals would rotate to play with each group. However, when they played The Sandbox, a 17-hole par 3 course, Phil mixed things up. He said, “It was three groups of five all playing against each other and it created one of the most memorable parts of the trip.” It’s equally important for staff to build relationships with the members to help create memorable experiences for all. “We would play golf all day and then take some time to relax before going to dinner. It was fun to spend time with the members outside of the club,” says Ryan Gallagher, Assistant Golf Professional.
Above Par Service
“It was the trip of the year,” according to Vid Kath, “I was expecting a 7 on a 10-point scale, hoped for a 9 but received a 12.” North Oaks Golf Club staff pride themselves on providing extraordinary member & guest experiences. That level of service commitment doesn’t stop when they step off the property; the desire to go above and beyond is always there. Golf professionals, Nick Sage, Ryan Gallagher, and Phil Anderson took care of every detail to ensure that every member had an extraordinarily relaxing, fun time.
