It finally happened. Your best friend got down on one knee and asked you to marry him. Of course, you said, “Yes!” And you’ve been floating on cloud nine ever since.
Soon after calling your family and friends and spreading your exciting news all over social media, you’ll likely begin searching for a venue if you don’t already have one in mind. Unless you plan on having a long engagement, don’t take too much time between the proposal and your search for a venue or contacting your dream location. Many venues book a year or more in advance, and dates can be hard to come by during the busy wedding season.
Saturdays, the most popular day to get married, will be the most difficult to book at any venue. So, if your dream location isn’t available on a Saturday you want, consider getting married on a Friday. It may sound strange, but there are actually a number of benefits to tying the knot on Friday — and some of them can save a lot of money.
Pick a Friday, Almost Any Friday
Since Saturdays tend to be more popular, many venues will have more than enough Fridays available to choose from.
Have you always dreamed of getting married amongst the autumn colors in October or in a popular cathedral in June? You’re not the only one. So, instead of compromising your dream location for a Saturday wedding, opt for a Friday.
Or, perhaps, you want a short engagement. (You’re in love! Why wait?) Booking a Saturday wedding in six months or less is difficult, but a Friday is much more feasible. On top of that, your preferred vendors are also more likely to be available on short notice for a Friday wedding versus a Saturday.
Aside from being able to marry in your dream location, this is a close second. Venues are cheaper to book on Fridays. That’s right. You could save thousands just on renting the space.
And your venue isn’t the only one offering less expensive rates for Fridays. Other wedding providers react to the same difference in supply and demand with lower prices on Fridays.
- Your DJ or band may cost less.
- A photographer or videographer may have a lower rate for Fridays.
- Your caterer may charge less per plate for a Friday service.
- Your flowers, a bigger ticket item than you may think, could be cheaper.
- Decoration or chair rental may also cost less.
Want to know the best part? All that money you’re saving simply by having your wedding on a Friday can either be spent splurging for a pricier dress, more expensive types of flowers, a better photographer/videographer, or toward the honeymoon of your dreams.
Enjoy Family and Friends
Choosing a Friday wedding means you can spend the rest of the weekend with family, friends, and out-of-town guests. Sleep in on Saturday, then meet for brunch and reminisce about your special day. It can be difficult trying to mingle with every guest at your wedding. So, this is a fun opportunity to hear other’s stories.
You can pair this with gift opening if you’d like your family and/or wedding party present for that. It’s another fun way to spend time together after your busy wedding day.
Get a Little R & R
It’s been a busy few days, weeks, and months for you and your new husband. After all, planning a wedding is a lot of work. A Friday wedding allows you the opportunity to relax and enjoy time together as newlyweds, whether that’s packing for your honeymoon, binge-watching TV, or going out on a date.
The same can be said for your guests. Ending their workweek with a fun celebration but giving them the weekend to enjoy family or tend to home projects is something everyone will appreciate.
So, if you’re worried about booking your dream venue in your favorite month/season, or you’re hoping to tie the knot in a few short months, consider a Friday wedding. We promise you won’t be disappointed.
And remember, dates book quickly. If you find a venue you love on a date you like, be timely in your decision-making and pay the down deposit. Only then is the venue yours.
